In the Museum

This is the largest painting I have done yet :) It is done in NAFA and it took a tremendously long period of time to finish. Before we started on this painting, our NAPFA teachers brought us to the National Museum, that is why the background of the painting actually depicts the National Museum and the chandelier the girl is sitting on is actually the installment of swinging chandeliers found in the museum (I’m sure all of you remembered it). After the trip to the museum, we were told to pick a favourite artwork and incorporate it into our own painting. So I had thought of painting little kids swinging on chandeliers. There is actually not much of a meaning to this artwork, I just liked the dream-like feeling this painting gives. While painting this, I had found difficulties trying to paint the girl, especially the face. This is partly because I had no references for the girl. In the end I had to repaint the face as the first one looked too unrealistic (I’m actually quite happy with the second layer). This painting was actually exhibited at the NAFA exhibition together with Ping Ting’s and Yong Hwang’s artworks :]
If you look hard enough, you will find some of imperfections in the artwork. There is actually quite a few, but I’m too lazy to list them out >.<

I remember! Some of us stayed there to stare, and we realized there were different “patterns” to the swinging!
I like the little boy at the back most, actually! He looks like he’s seriously having fun, but my fear of heights shan’t allow me to do that.

the girl at the front looks rather doll-like. Her white little dress makes it more so.
Did you do any referencing for poses?

I like the way that you painted the trees in the background. The girl’s right forearms looks a bit weird though.
The chandeliers are really nice! (: You painted them really well!

i like your chandelier too! i think your painting look overall very impressive:) but maybe you should add more details to the girl since she is the main focus. but well, you have no reference…. so overall, i think its a good job!:D

hello (: so sad i missed the exhibition so i did not get to see all your works! anycase, i think that your painting is really well done. I really like the hair of the girl and her emotionless expression. makes her feel really like a doll. However, I am slightly confused by the perspective as it seems to be inside yet outside the building. was this intentional? or maybe its just me and my chionging. nevertheless, i think your control of brushwork and your portrayal of shadow and light is definitely praiseworthy. WELL DONE (:
